Ultrasound is the single most important tool for evaluating the thyroid and neck. At Diabetes & Endocrine Specialists, it is performed in our office by Dr. Schneider, who holds the Endocrine Certification in Neck Ultrasound (ECNU) — a credential held by relatively few endocrinologists nationwide.
Thyroid & Neck Ultrasound
In-office, high-resolution ultrasound performed by a certified thyroid specialist.
Why Endocrinologist-Performed Ultrasound Matters
When the physician treating your thyroid also performs and interprets the ultrasound, nothing is lost in translation. We see the nodule, the surrounding tissue, and the lymph nodes in real time, correlate it directly with your examination and labs, and can proceed to a biopsy or plan treatment in the same visit. We use a high-resolution Siemens ultrasound system optimized for small-parts and thyroid imaging, allowing detailed assessment of nodule size, composition, margins, vascularity, and calcification.
What We Use It For
- Characterizing thyroid nodules and assigning risk for biopsy
- Guiding fine-needle aspiration biopsies with precision
- Evaluating neck lymph nodes for thyroid cancer staging and surveillance
- Assessing the parathyroid glands in hyperparathyroidism
- Monitoring known nodules over time
- Guiding interventional procedures such as radiofrequency and ethanol ablation in real time
