Diabetes & Endocrine Specialists was founded on a simple conviction: that patients with complex hormonal and metabolic conditions deserve more than a referral and a prescription — they deserve a true specialty center, where advanced diagnostics, in-office procedures, and clinical research come together under one roof.
Our Story
A specialty endocrine practice built on science, technology, and time spent with patients.
From Research Bench to Bedside
Dr. Darius Schneider built this practice after a career that spans European and American academic medicine — doctoral research in experimental endocrinology, physician-scientist training at the University of Heidelberg, diabetes immunology research at the La Jolla Institute, and endocrinology fellowship at the University of Washington. He joined the San Diego endocrine community at Diabetes and Endocrine Associates — long regarded as one of the country’s premier endocrine practices, led by pioneers and luminaries of the field Dr. Daniel Einhorn and Dr. Raymond Fink. Dr. Schneider founded Diabetes & Endocrine Specialists in 2020 to carry that legacy forward.
That scientific foundation is not a footnote — it shapes how the practice works every day. The same rigor that goes into a research protocol goes into a difficult diagnosis, a thyroid nodule evaluation, or a diabetes regimen that has not responded to standard care.
A Center of Excellence in San Diego
Today the practice serves patients across San Diego County from offices in La Jolla, Poway, and La Mesa, with dedicated centers for thyroid disease, diabetes and diabetes technology, bone health, reproductive and hormonal health, metabolic disease, and disorders of the adrenal and pituitary glands — and one of the region’s few interventional endocrinology programs offering ultrasound-guided thyroid procedures. Through our affiliated research center, EndoTrials, patients also gain access to clinical trials and emerging therapies.
What ties it together is the founding idea: specialty endocrine care delivered with academic depth, modern technology, and the time each patient’s problem actually requires.
